Big News: A Light Under the Dome is a Go!

Amanda Collins as Angelina Grimke in the 2022 reading in the Senate Chamber

The big news to start the year is that we have finally gotten permission from the State House to stage A Light Under the Dome in the Massachusetts State House Senate Chamber! And the National Park Service has committed the funds for the production (almost all the funds–we still have to raise a little extra). We’ve been developing this play for the past few years, but it was always a big gamble as to whether we could get all the pieces to line up.  My dear friend and frequent artistic collaborator Courtney O’Connor will direct a brilliant cast.  (Thomika Bridwell, Amanda Collins, Marge Dunn, Bridgette Hayes, Regine Vital.)  The production will run for four days only, August 13-16, for two performances a day. We think we can get about 125 people in there, about 1,000 overall. Seats will go fast (admission is free, but registration will be required).

This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m glad we’ve got a great team in place to make it happen.

Stay tuned for more updates. And be sure to sign up for the Plays in Place email list so you don’t miss getting a ticket when they become available.

We’ll be performing under the dome where Angelina gave her speech in 1838!
